Pusan Port recorded its highest levels ever for container cargoes in March of this year thanks to a wharf facility expansion and new vessels investment since it opened.
According to BPA(Busan Port Authority) on April 7, the port handled 1,063,944 TEU last month, which represents an increase of 12,190 TEU over the previous monthly record of 1,051,725 TEU in March of last year.
One insider at BPA said, "Of these cargoes, import and export cargoes were 598,081 TEU and transshipment cargoes were 465,863 TEU, with each increasing 0.7% and 1.8% respectively compared with March of last year."
Shinsundae wharf handled 203,690 TEU, increasing 19.3% as compared with last year thanks to the No.5 berth opening in February of this year. Jasungdae wharf recoreded 204,052 TEU, increasing 9.3% due to new callings in mid March.
Also, New Gamman wharf handled 940,424 TEU, increasing 1.7% over last year, and Busan New Port handled 7,737 TEU, up 451% as compared with February of this year.
Busan New Port opened in January of this year.
On the other hand, Gamman wharf recorded 239,997 TEU, down 6.4% due to MSC business moving to Busan New Port and Maersk Line changing some callings to Shinsundae wharf.
Pusan Port handled 2,936,756 TEU from January to March of this year, increasing 1.6% over its 2,889,544 TEU from the same period of last year.
