* U.S. Customs introduces new air cargo manifest rules *

U.S. Customs will introduce a electronic manifest report system before lading for tracking railway cargo from July 12. It will also introduce one for airway cargo from a month thereafter.
According to the foreign press, the system will take effect for all truck cargo after the automated mani-fest system is introduced during the fall of this year.
This system, a manifest report system, was applied to the '2002 trading law' that went into effect during December of last year.
Shipping cargo had already come under the effect of this law from last year, but customs officials thought that the law regarding railway and airway cargo would require a preparatory period because transportation companies as well as customs officials themselves had built an electronic system. Therefore, this rule now applies for railway and airway cargo.
U.S. Customs will begin utilizing an airway cargo electronic manifest report system from the American west to east coasts from August 12, To carry our this plan, U.S. Customs officialsand shipping staff are closely studying methods for best implementing the system.
